The Air Guardian has a strong emphasis on thought, ideas and intellectual pursuits, and can communicate and express ideas with mental agility. They represent dreams and theory, and are often objective and fair-minded. Air Guardians are concerned with the social well-being, idealistic value, and the freedom of thought. They are the keepers of air animals and weather.

The Fire Guardian is highly independant and generous. They represent enthusiasm and self-esteem, and often seem to glow with an inner warmth and exuberance. Fire Guardians are concerned for the welfare of mental well-being, intuitive values, and often have the power to lead and transform. They are the keepers of fire and energy.

The Water Guardian is closely in touch with their feelings and are attuned to the nuances and subtleties in their environment. They represent change and substance, and are often the most innovative. Water Guardians are concerned with the emotional well-being, artistic value, and the necessary survival of all things. They are the keepers of the underwater plants and animals, oceans and rivers.

The Spirit Guardian represents balance. The Spirit Guardians are concerned with spiritual well-being, and is often called the lifesource of all that is. All Spirit Guardians take upon themselves the guardianship of all life within the four gates, and they are the keepers of love and hate, fear and courage, light and dark, yin and yang—balance.

Addendum:
Each guardian of the four gates is also a guardian of Spirit, helping to keep the balance of nature and life. However, it is rumored that throughout time there have been but a few who were naturally born as Guardians of the Spirit. These creatures have an equal balance of each of the four elements—so balanced in fact that they can instantly feel when the balance of the Divine Circle has shifted. A naturally born spirit-guardian is so rare that they are only seen every few thousand years, and you can only identify them at certain times in their lifecycle.
